He recalled that from August 18, a ban on entry into Estonia of Russian citizens with Schengen visas issued by Estonian diplomatic missions will come into force in the country.

“The concern is that, I don’t know, 131,000 people who have received visas in other European countries, who will be in transit, can enter Estonia, this is a more serious challenge for us,” the minister said in a comment to ERR.

According to Läänemets, closing the borders within the Schengen area will create problems for the people of Estonia as well.

“It is much wiser to do this together with other EU countries,” he added.

Earlier, the Estonian Foreign Ministry said that the country is closing the borders for Russian citizens with Schengen visas issued by the republic.

Russian Permanent Representative to the European Union Vladimir Chizhov, in an interview with RT, called the decision of the Estonian Foreign Ministry complete nonsense.
