A 61-year-old man has been indicted for intentional homicide, after killing his partner with a firearm in Mulhouse, the prosecution announced on Friday.

Presented to the investigating judge on Wednesday, the man was indicted and remanded in custody.

The victim, a 51-year-old woman, was fatally injured "with a single small-caliber shot in the sternum", while her spouse spoke in police custody of "an accidental shot while cleaning" a weapon, said in a press release the public prosecutor of Mulhouse Edwige Roux-Morizot.

Several weapons at home

The facts took place Monday at the couple's home, the emergency services being alerted around 5:30 p.m. by the victim's daughter who indicated "that her stepfather had accidentally shot her mother with a firearm".

Transported to the hospital, the mother of the family died shortly after.

Hunter, the man has several weapons at his home including a small caliber handgun, still according to the prosecution.

The judicial investigation, opened for intentional homicide, was opened "according to the principle of the highest criminal acceptance", however specifies the prosecutor of Mulhouse.

The exact circumstances of the death and the intentionality of the homicide have yet to be established by the investigation, according to the prosecution, which therefore did not mention a feminicide.

The collective "Féminicides by companions or ex" has however now counted the death of the mother of the family as the 71st feminicide recorded since the beginning of the year.

According to the latest figures from the Ministry of the Interior available, 146 women were victims of feminicide in 2019 and 102 in 2020. The collective "Femicide by companions or ex", which lists them for its part, counted 113 in 2021. .
