According to the Swedish National Agency for Education's summary of the new curriculum, the knowledge area's new name shows "the meaning that sexuality and relationships are characterized by consent".

Nina Rung says that consent is about more than sexual relationships and also includes love relationships.

- If you are 15 years old and in your first relationship, what should you know about what is actually violence?

Is it ok for someone to call you derogatory words, push you, pull your hair or take a stranglehold, says Nina Rung, who has long debated the impact of porn consumption on young people's emotional health.

- It has never been so clearly written in the curriculum that you must gain knowledge about, for example, porn, says Nina Rung.

Clearly in the preschools

In several preschools, children are taught that no one should touch them without permission.

- They clearly teach "stop mine body" but then it stops when that work does not continue at school, says Nina Rung.

She mentions that not all parents are able or willing to talk to their child about the subjects in question.

And there teachers must step in as a complement.

Digital arena

Among other things, she hopes that students will understand and be able to set limits even digitally.

Nina Rung mentions "dick picks" which refer to images of the male genitalia that are sent to another person without being requested.

- If you don't have anyone to turn to, 'dick picks' and more become normalised, she says.

She has now co-authored a book intended to function as a knowledge support for teachers.

Not least since the subject is no longer limited to biology and social science teaching.

- Now all teachers, regardless of whether you have maths or sports, must introduce the subject in different ways, says Nina Rung.

The Consent Act

According to Nina Rung, the new curriculum reflects the political debate that led to the Consent Act.

When it was introduced in 2018, some critics believed it would prove impossible to investigate and prosecute.

A year after coming into effect, a review of the I team's name in P1 showed that the team had made an impact.

Among other things, the Supreme Court took on a rape case.
