The man, who is 35 years old, was convicted in Turkey's Supreme Court in 2013 and 2016 for several counts of the crime of misuse of bank and credit cards.

In total, he was sentenced to 14 years in prison for the crimes.

It is these judgments that form the basis of Turkey's request for the extradition of the man.

The man has been detained in Sweden since the end of last year due to the extradition case.

Denies the crimes

He himself denies the crime and has stated to the Supreme Court that he feels wrongly convicted.

The reason why he was convicted, he himself believes, is that he converted from Islam to Christianity, that he refused to do military service and that his mother is Kurdish.

However, the Supreme Court announced in a decision on July 25 that it sees no obstacles to extraditing the man.

The court writes that nothing has emerged to indicate that the man is at risk of being persecuted in Turkey.

The government has now decided that the extradition must be carried out.

It is the first known case since NATO negotiations began.
