The two main fires in Maine-et-Loire are now fixed, the department's firefighters announced Thursday morning.

The Codis nevertheless indicated that it was still "in defense of sensitive points on 22 sites" located in the burned areas.

The two main fires in Maine-et-Loire, which since Monday have ravaged more than 1,500 hectares mainly in the forests, were now fixed, AFP learned Thursday morning from the department's firefighters.

The fire located around Baugé-sur-Anjou, which ravaged the Pugle forest, "has been fixed since 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, with 1,400 hectares burned. We are still defending sensitive points on 22 sites, because they are located in the burnt surfaces. We have many recoveries, some of which are not natural", regretted the Codis to AFP.

A direct consequence of global warming

"We have a very, very great vigilance: on the threatened surface, we are at 200 hectares and this afternoon, we have not good weather conditions with heat, wind and very low degree of humidity (11%)", a added the Codis.

In Beaulieu-sur-Layon, south of Angers, in the Layon wine region, the fire is also fixed and 150 hectares have been burned.

"The fire requires vigilance since, there too, we have unnatural occasions", according to the Codis.

More than 500 firefighters, many of whom came from other departments, are still present on these two disasters.

According to scientists, the multiplication of extreme meteorological phenomena (heat wave, drought, fires, etc.) is a direct consequence of global warming, with greenhouse gas emissions increasing in intensity, duration and frequency.
