Koenigstein.

A major forest fire broke out near Königstein im Taunus on Thursday.

To the west of Tillmannsweg, two to three hectares of forest were probably affected by the fire, a police spokesman said in the early afternoon.

The fire brigades of Königstein and the surrounding towns and communities in the Hochtaunuskreis and Main-Taunuskreis are deployed with dozens of vehicles.

A helicopter with a water extraction system is used to fetch extinguishing water from the nearby Billtalweiher.

The fire department has been on duty since morning.

In Königstein and the surrounding area, a number of emergency vehicles could be seen and sirens heard for hours.

Since the smoke was also moving through the Taunus, numerous residents reported to the emergency services.

But there is no health risk, said the police spokesman.

Police have not yet started investigating the cause of the fire.

She blocked roads and paths so that the fire brigade could get to the fire.

A section of federal highway 8 was also closed.

At the weekend it had already burned in the Taunus on the sand plague.

Forester Carolin Pfaff from the Königstein Forestry Office was concerned on Thursday with a view to the extinguishing water because of the current water shortage.

On Thursday afternoon, the fire brigades fetched fire-fighting water for the emergency vehicles from a hydrant in Königstein-Falkenstein near their Kronberg district.

But the water tanks were increasingly empty these days, said the forester.
