At the end of July, a 200 meter deep sinkhole was discovered at the Candelaria copper and gold mine in northern Chile.

Initially, a diameter of 25 meters was measured, but new measurements show a diameter of 35.6 meters.

What has caused the sinkhole is still unclear, but suspicions are directed at the nearby mine owned by Swedish-Canadian Lundin Mining and a Japanese company.

Investigations are now to be carried out both inside the mine and outside to clarify the course of events.
