It has been confirmed that President Yoon Seok-yeol has decided to exclude former President Lee Myung-bak and other politicians from the Liberation Day special amnesty.

It seems that he was conscious of the public opinion against the amnesty of politicians and the low support for the state government.

This is the report by Park Won-kyung.

However, it was confirmed yesterday (9th) that ex-President Lee was not included in the Liberation Day amnesty review committee of the Ministry of Justice.

Politicians of the ruling and opposition parties, including former Gyeongnam Governor Kim Kyung-soo and former Minister of Strategy and Finance Choi Kyung-hwan, were not included.

In particular, it is reported that Justice Minister Han Dong-hoon expressed his opposition to the amnesty of former President Lee.

In a recent opinion poll, more than half of the opposition to Lee's amnesty appeared to have worked.

In response, Lee Jae-oh, a standing adviser to the people's power, pro-Lee Gye-Chairman, said that former President Lee said that he may not need amnesty if it helps run state affairs.

On the other hand, Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong, as well as the heads of some large corporations and criminals for livelihood, are said to be included in the amnesty.

An official from the presidential office explained that the Liberation Day amnesty is focused on revitalizing the economy.

The government will hold an ad hoc cabinet meeting the day after tomorrow and announce the candidates for Liberation Day amnesty.

Regarding the exclusion of political amnesty, Daegu Mayor Hong Jun-pyo expressed regret that amnesty is a measure of politics, not the prosecution, and Park Hong-geun, floor leader of the Democratic Party, expressed regret that it is important to include the meaning of national unity.
