In the first half of this year, Cathay Pacific recorded significant growth in both passenger and cargo revenue compared to the same period last year.

  Cathay Pacific stated that although the travel restrictions and quarantine requirements related to the epidemic have severely restricted the operation of its passenger business, its passenger revenue in the first half of this year increased by 177.6% compared with the first half of 2021 to 2.068 billion (HKD, the same below) .

In the first half of this year, it carried 335,000 passengers, an average of 1,853 passengers per day, an increase of 113.4% over the same period last year.

  As for cargo, Cathay Pacific's cargo revenue in the first half of this year was 12.148 billion yuan, an increase of 9.3% over the first half of 2021.

  Looking ahead, Cathay Pacific Chairman He Yili believes that the SAR government's recent adjustments to the quarantine requirements for inbound passengers will help to increase the travel desire of visitors to Hong Kong.

Cathay Pacific aims to gradually increase its passenger capacity and cargo capacity to 25% and 65% of pre-pandemic levels, respectively, by the end of this year.

  He Yili also mentioned that Cathay Pacific is actively preparing for the increase in global travel demand after the "customs clearance".

To this end, Cathay Pacific began to repatriate aircraft parked outside Hong Kong, and has launched a comprehensive recruitment plan, expecting to recruit more than 4,000 frontline employees in the next 18 to 24 months to meet the company's operational needs.

  He Yili said that Cathay Pacific Airways is confident to contribute to the reconstruction of a prosperous Hong Kong aviation hub. He believes that such an aviation hub is extremely important to Hong Kong's long-term economic development.
