Columnist Gerhard Lechner wrote about this in the Wiener Zeitung newspaper.

According to the author of the material, the impression of a unified support for Kyiv among the German and Austrian population is misleading.

He stressed that among the inhabitants of these countries there is an impressive number of supporters of Moscow.

“But why this strange benevolence towards Putin and Russia, which is especially great in the German-speaking space?

Of course, Putin impresses the right with criticism of ultra-liberal gender policies, and the left with anti-NATO rhetoric,” Lechner explained.

The author of the publication noted that dissatisfaction with the economic consequences of anti-Russian sanctions is growing more and more among the Germans and Austrians.

"Rising inflation, threatening gas shortages and monstrous prices are dampening enthusiasm for Ukraine," the observer concluded.

Earlier, retired British lieutenant general Simon Mayall admitted on the air of Times Radio that residents of European countries may abandon the idea of supporting Kyiv if the European Commission's plan to reduce gas consumption by 15% is implemented.
