Oleksandr Romaniuk and Oleksandr Barbaruk are disabled and it became extra difficult to take shelter when the war hit Ukraine almost six months ago.

- When the flight alert came, it was difficult for us to escape to shelters.

That's why we couldn't stay in Ukraine, they say.

Adapted accommodation

Now they have arrived at the new accommodation in Västerås that has been set up for Ukrainian refugees since the municipality took over responsibility for those in need of protection from the Migration Agency on 1 July.

- Västerås is a nice and good city and this accommodation is, in comparison to the other accommodation we had in Södertälje and in Vallby, the only one that is adapted to disabilities.

We have great opportunities here, they say.

More refugees on the way

In connection with the opening of the accommodation, the Integration Unit hired two extra people to work with the refugees.

So far they have supported 13 people in need of protection, 10 adults and three children, and more are about to move in.

- We will receive five more families who will be placed here in the next month, says Vlad Riznychenko, housing assistant.

In the clip, Oleksandr Romaniuk and Oleksandr Barbaruk talk about how the accommodation made them think about being able to stay in Sweden.
