According to her, the US authorities continue to "closely monitor the situation" at the ZNPP.

Jean-Pierre also said that the US Department of Energy and the National Nuclear Security Administration continue to receive data from radiation sensors.

“Fortunately, we did not observe signs of increased or abnormal levels of radiation,” TASS quoted her as saying.

Jean-Pierre called on the Russian authorities to return full control over the ZNPP to Kyiv.

“We will continue to support the efforts of the IAEA to fulfill its technical safeguards mandate to assist Ukraine in ensuring security at its nuclear facilities,” she concluded.

Earlier, the military-civilian administration of Energodar reported that on the night of August 7, the Armed Forces of Ukraine fired at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant from the Uragan MLRS.

Igor Vishnevetsky, Deputy Director of the Department for Non-Proliferation and Arms Control of the Russian Foreign Ministry, expressed concern that the shelling of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant by the Armed Forces of Ukraine could lead to disaster.

Also, the head of the National Defense Control Center of Russia, Mikhail Mizintsev, warned that in the event of an accident at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant due to attacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, a global man-made disaster would occur, which would exceed the scale of the consequences of accidents at nuclear power plants in Chernobyl and Fukushima.
