The so-called Death Road connects the Amazon rainforest and Bolivia's capital La Paz.

The road was once a key link for many heavy trucks and heavily trafficked.

Between 1999 and 2003, several hundred people died on or near the narrow road.

- There were constant cars on the road and the area was very much affected by pollution, noise and dust generated by the vehicles, Maria Viscarra, a biologist at the Wild Conservation Society, told Reuters.

In 2007, Bolivia decided to build a new road that was safer, and now biologists at the Wild Conservation Society are seeing how wildlife has started to recover.

With the help of 35 cameras, around 110 species have been seen in the area around the road.
