Russia announces the death of one person in an explosion at the Saki air base

A munition explosion at an air base in Moscow-annexed Crimea killed one person and wounded others on Tuesday, Russian officials said.

The explosions at the Saki base came as Russia's military operation in Ukraine entered its 167th day.

The Defense Ministry said in a statement published by the official Russian media that "several munitions belonging to the Air Force exploded near the base in Novofyodorovka."

The ministry added that it was seeking to determine the circumstances of the explosions, but confirmed that the air base was not the target of an attack.
