China News Service, August 8. According to Dagong Wenhui All Media reports, on July 3, 2022, the Hong Kong Palace Museum was officially opened to the public.

In the past few days, the theme exhibition featuring more than 900 pieces of the Palace Museum collection has set off a wave of round-the-clock exhibitions in Hong Kong.

Recently, Wang Xudong, director of the Palace Museum, accepted an exclusive interview with Dawen reporters in Beijing.

In his view, at the special moment of the 25th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland, while the epidemic has not yet been completely eliminated, the opening of the Hong Kong Palace Museum as scheduled is a cultural gift from the central government to Hong Kong compatriots.

The opening exhibition of the Hong Kong Palace Museum exhibited a total of 914 pieces of the Palace Museum collection, of which about 70% of the cultural relics were exhibited in Hong Kong for the first time.

This is also the largest and highest-level exhibition of cultural relics in the Palace Museum since its establishment in 1925.

Among them, the seven themed exhibitions of "Forbidden Vientiane", "Forbidden One Day", "Concrete as a Tool", "Dragon and Phoenix", "Innovation of the Tool", "Treasure of the Country" and "Running in the World" have aroused enthusiastic responses among Hong Kong citizens. .

"Actually, as early as the beginning of the construction of the Hong Kong Palace Museum, the teams from Beijing and Hong Kong began to think about the theme and design of the exhibition." Wang Xudong said, "The choice of each cultural relic to Hong Kong reflects our curators. Very deep intentions. To be honest, if I were to recommend them, I would not be able to choose, because each of them is a carefully selected treasure of the country. I sincerely hope that Hong Kong compatriots can personally experience the culture of the Forbidden City in Hong Kong Museum, to taste each exhibit carefully, and harvest your own experience and feelings.”

In Wang Xudong's mind, the opening exhibition of the Hong Kong Palace Museum wants to express "three meanings": first, it will focus on displaying the profound connotation of the five thousand years of Chinese civilization, such as the buildings and collections behind the "Forbidden City", "One Day in the Forbidden City" The daily life of the Qing palace behind it; second, to combine five thousand years of historical civilization with modern social life, such as the national treasures of calligraphy and painting represented by the Jin, Tang, Song and Yuan dynasties, and the reflection and inspiration it brings to modern design; third, Let Chinese civilization and Western civilization dialogue, such as "galloping the world" shows the differences and connections between Eastern and Western horse culture.

"The future of the Hong Kong Palace Museum lies in two aspects. One is to strengthen the cultural awareness and cultural self-confidence of Hong Kong compatriots through the Chinese civilization carried by the Palace Museum's cultural relics; "Wang Xudong said that all Chinese children, including Hong Kong compatriots, share the common genes of Chinese civilization. The question is how to activate it and let it continue to bloom with multiple values in the new era.

In the future, the Palace Museum and the Hong Kong Palace Museum will definitely increase their efforts to support and learn from each other.

For example, the Forbidden City will continuously send national treasures, cultural relics and academic research results to Hong Kong for display and exchange, and Hong Kong can also feed back various innovative results formed by them back to Beijing. I believe that such a positive interaction will definitely It will promote the further development of both institutions.
