It is a limited release of a thick oil that was discovered mainly at the beaches in Hittarp, Domsten, Viken, Lerberget and in Höganäs.

- But it is too much to come from a leisure boat.

Within a few days, we will receive answers from the samples we took of the oil, which can provide more information, notes Elisabet Lindberg, who is responsible for the beach in Helsingborg.

It is not very common for ships to clean their tanks in the strait, says Lars Persson from the county administrative board.

Westerly winds blew this weekend.

- But the oil may have traveled with the currents, says Elisabet Lindberg.

Oil in the marine nature reserve Grollegrund - cleaning is done by hand

Most of the oil is stuck in the seaweed that is washed up on the beaches.

The Grollegrund marine nature reserve, where the sensitive red shark breeds among other things, is also affected.

- Because the beach is rocky, it is much more difficult to clean it, there we will have to pick up the seaweed with a plastic bag by hand.

We have to make an assessment as to how we should proceed with the stones that are now smeared in oil, even small emissions harm the environment.

Sandy beaches are easier to clean up because you can drive out with a tractor and pick up the seaweed, which is now classified as environmentally hazardous waste.

In Höganäs, they started to clear the Vikens sea bath already on Saturday.

Warning: do not swim from the beaches

- We urge the public not to touch the seaweed so that it risks spreading further, there is no bathing ban, but we want you to do so from the docks and dogs must be on a leash, the oil can be dangerous to contact with.

The Coast Guard has been out with both ships and planes to see if there is more oil out at sea without finding anything.

Their sampling is aimed at finding a possible thief who released the oil.

It could be a ship that has washed its tank.

- But it's like looking for a needle in a haystack, says Elisabet Lindberg.
