In the personnel hearing of the National Police Commissioner candidate Yoon Hee-geun of the Administrative Safety Committee held at the National Assembly today (8th), the opposition and opposition parties met head-on over the controversy over the legality of the establishment of the Police Department.

The opposition Democratic Party of Korea launched a general offensive as the establishment of a police station was a violation of the Constitution and the Police Act.

On the other hand, the People's Power, the ruling party, opposed it, arguing that reform of the police force was necessary.

Rep. Moon Jin-seok, a member of the Democratic Party, pointed out that the establishment of the police department was a revision of the enforcement ordinance rather than the revision of the Government Organization Act and the National Police Agency Act, saying, "It directly violated the Constitution and violated the National Police Agency Act."

Rep. Oh Young-hwan of the same party pointed out that when candidate Yoon answered that there was no problem with the establishment of a police station through the revision of the enforcement ordinance, "I can only think that the candidate is repeating the logic of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration misleading the people in an illegal process." .

The opposition continued to raise issues with Superintendent Ryu Sam-young, who led the superintendent meeting last month, on standby.

Rep. Song Jae-ho of the Democratic Party said, "Superintendent Ryu accepted (requested by Candidate Yoon) not to issue a statement (after the superintendent meeting), but suddenly, after the superintendent meeting, he took the action of issuing a standby 2 hours after the meeting." If the person standing on the other side of the police is like this, would he be able to lead the 140,000 police?"

Rep. Park Sang-min said, "At the time of the superintendent's meeting, Superintendent Ryu and others attended in uniforms. "Isn't it an official job to wear a uniform and to attend a meeting? "He pointed out.

Rep. Kim Cheol-min of the Democratic Party also demanded the disciplinary action against Superintendent Ryu be lifted.

Candidate Yoon replied only, "After confirming the facts, I will make a judgment according to the gravity of the case."

The ruling People's Power criticized the Superintendent's Assembly and argued that police force reform was necessary.

“If you look at the current situation of the police chief, people from the police force are virtually in control,” said Jang Je-won, a member of the People’s Strength of the People’s Army.

Rep. Kim Woong of the same party, a former prosecutor, mentioned that the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency recently called for an investigation into Lee Jun-seok, and that the Moon Jae-in administration distributed an internal report of the Democratic Party criticizing the investigation of former Justice Minister Cho Kuk. It is really questionable why they say nothing when political neutrality is horribly broken, but then suddenly gather and shout 'political neutrality', saying '(neutrality with the establishment of a police station) can collapse'."
