A fire is underway in Voreppe, in Isère, this Monday.

A hundred hectares are affected and around 200 people have been evacuated.

A total of 270 firefighters are mobilized on Monday.

At the microphone of Europe 1, one of them testifies to the difficulty of controlling the fire due to the mountainous landscapes.

Since Friday evening, a major fire has been unleashed on the foothills of the Chartreuse massif.

Sunday, at the end of the afternoon, fanned by a wind and high temperatures, the fire quickly progressed on the heights of Voreppe.

The fire now extends over nearly 80 hectares.

A total of 270 firefighters are mobilized on Monday.

Two water bomber helicopters, four Canadair and two Dash continue their rotations.

Essential air resources, since this area is difficult to access by road, explains Commander Eric Brocardi, spokesman for the fire department.

“There is a particular risk because of the landscapes”

"We are on landscapes of passes and mountains. These landscapes alternate between valleys, hillsides, mountain fronts and with fairly steep areas", he underlines on Europe 1. "So that means that there is a particular risk. There is a fairly high vegetation cover, which is composed exclusively of softwoods. You should know that in this context, the objective is to be able to position pipes, water lines at the ground, to be able to bring pressure with these pipes as close as possible to the flames".

The prefecture reminds the population to avoid the area so as not to hinder the firefighters.

Two roads are still closed: departmental 520 and 1075.
