When asked whether the Georgian conflict in 2008 and the events in Ukraine could be considered links in the same chain, Medvedev replied: "Without a doubt."

According to him, "this is a single process and a common plan directed against Russia."

“It consists in the desire of the West, primarily the United States and other Anglo-Saxon countries, to rock the situation in our country.

How?

Through neighbors, in close proximity to the borders of Russia,” Medvedev said.

He added that the goal of all these actions is the same - "to destroy Russia."

“This is the root cause of the extremely aggressive Russophobic geopolitical process initiated by the West,” Medvedev said.

Earlier, the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov called the coup in Ukraine in 2014 a threat to the world order.

According to him, the Russian side does not agree with the statement by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg that Russia's alleged actions are "an attack on the current world order."

He stressed that the coup d'état in Ukraine in 2014, staged by members of the alliance, became a real thunderstorm for the world order.

Peskov also said that because of NATO, a tense situation with the West had been brewing for several decades.
