Gérald Darmanin has just announced on Monday that he is intensifying controls throughout France against people performing urban rodeos.

During his visit to Marseilles, the Minister of the Interior described these acts as "criminal".

Two children playing “tag”

This weekend in the Val-d'Oise, this practice had seriously injured two children who were playing "cat" on the esplanade of their district: "I asked the police and the national gendarmerie for this month of August the intensification of these controls and I hope that there will be 10,000 control operations from today on all the national territory” therefore specified the Minister of the Interior.

Last May, Gérald Darmanin had already asked for an intensification of controls on the axes frequented by the followers of urban rodeos.

It resulted, according to him, in 1,200 arrests, and 700 seizures of motorcycles, quads or cars: “there have been 8,000 operations by the police and the gendarmerie in the past two months”, he specifies.

Since 2018, a law has also strengthened the fight against these motorized "rodeos" and provides for penalties of up to five years in prison for their perpetrators.
