Chad: rebel groups take position before signing of Doha peace agreement

After 5 months of negotiations supervised by Qatar, it is this Monday that the peace agreement between the authorities and the politico-military groups must be signed.

The process was long, the leader of the junta Mahamat Idriss Déby, came in person on Friday to participate in the final discussions.

52 movements are present in Doha and in the end, two groups have been created: those who wish to sign this agreement and those who reject it.

Discreet until Sunday, several leaders of the rebel groups spoke.

On the other hand, considered as the most powerful politico-military group, the Fact, the Front pour l'alternance et la concorde au Tchad, at the origin of the offensive which cost the life of the former leader Idriss Déby, announced its refusal to sign the agreement but remains open to dialogue.

The movement's spokesman, Issa Ahamat, indicated that the text did not take into account the demands of Fact, in particular, "

This peace agreement, therefore criticized by various rebel groups, was also criticized by members of the government.

Diplomats following the discussions also feared in recent days a postponement of the signing.

The agreement, once signed, would in any case open a new stage since the objective of the ruling junta is to open the inclusive national dialogue on August 20 with the signatory politico-military forces, the political class and civil society. .

The Fact rejects this agreement, which does not take into account our demands.

The release of our prisoners from the signing of the agreement, the respect of parity at the level of the delegates of the inclusive national dialogue, the establishment of a new organizing committee of the inclusive national dialogue...
