“The initiative to offer basic military training to Ukrainian citizens comes from the UK, which has invited other countries in the UK-led Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) as well as Canada to contribute.

Now the government has decided that Sweden will contribute to the training of Ukrainian soldiers,” reads a press release on the website of the Swedish government.

It is specified that trained citizens will subsequently be able to serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

About 10,000 citizens of Ukraine and up to 120 Swedish instructors will take part in military training.

Earlier, the outgoing British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, during a visit to Kyiv, offered to train 10,000 Ukrainian soldiers on the territory of European countries in four months.

In July, British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said that the first group of Ukrainian troops arrived in Britain to undergo military training in a few months.
