Qatari Foreign Ministry Spokesman Majed Al-Ansari said that his country's role was pivotal to ensure the reduction of tension in order to reach a ceasefire in Gaza.

Al-Ansari added in an interview with Al-Jazeera that Qatar's role since the beginning of the Israeli aggression on Gaza has been through contacts with all parties to stop the aggression.

He added that contacts regionally and internationally continued actively to find a practical formula that would end the tension and ensure that the agreement would not be broken, as he put it.

He added that the goal of communicating with the parties was to understand the nature of the tension and its consequences after the assassination of the leader of the Islamic Jihad movement, Tayseer al-Jabari, and to stop the bloodshed and the suffering of the Palestinians in Gaza.

The Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman also said that the Qatari Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and officials in the ministry have conducted marathon contacts in recent days with various parties, to get to know the reality of the situation in Gaza and to ensure the exchange of information in order to reach solutions.

He explained that his country's diplomacy depends on dialogue and bringing the parties together, and it has achieved success on several levels, noting that the Palestinian file is one of the most important files that Qatari diplomacy is working on.

The Qatari spokesman indicated that Doha condemned, through two statements, the Israeli escalation in Gaza and the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque.
