As China's representative tourist destination, Hainan Island, was shut down due to the spread of Corona 19, more than 80,000 tourists who visited Hainan during the peak summer vacation season were stranded locally.

China's CCTV reported that Sanya City, Hainan Province, has imposed a lockdown order across the country from 6 am yesterday (6th) and is making sure that citizens and outside tourists are not allowed to leave their homes and accommodations, and undergo a complete Corona 19 PCR test.

Sanya, a city on the southern coast of Hainan Island, is a travel hub with high-end resorts and hotels.

More than 80,000 tourists were unable to leave Sanya and quarantined in accommodations and other places as authorities demanded airlines not to pick up tourists while travel between Sanya and other parts of Hainan Island was banned.

Sanya International Duty Free, a mega-large duty-free shop that draws tens of thousands of shoppers a day, has also closed its operations.

In other cities in Hainan Province, commercial facilities with a high risk of infection, such as karaoke, have also been suspended, and Hainan Province is conducting a full-scale COVID-19 investigation on all islanders.

From the 1st to the 5th at noon on the 5th, a total of 525 people in Hainan, centered on Sanya, were infected with the corona, making Hainan the most severe area of the spread of Corona 19 in China.

The sudden lockdown in Sanya, one of China's leading travel destinations, is expected to further dampen travel demand and shock the industry as a whole, creating a perception among Chinese people that they have nowhere to travel safely.
