Yesterday, Chinese state television announced that the Chinese army will from now on hold regular exercises on the eastern side of the demarcation line in the Taiwan Strait, while Taiwan announced that flights through its airspace have gradually resumed.

The dividing line in the narrow strait between the island of Taiwan and mainland China is an unofficial line of control that military aircraft and battleships from either side do not usually cross.

Yesterday, China ended its largest military maneuvers in the vicinity of Taiwan, in response to the visit of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to the island, which pushed US-Chinese relations to their lowest level in years.

The Chinese army has launched large-scale military maneuvers, mobilizing aircraft, warships and ballistic missiles, while it will continue to conduct live-fire maneuvers until August 15 in the Yellow Sea that separates China and the Korean Peninsula.

The Eastern Command of the Chinese Army, which is supervising these operations, revealed that it had conducted joint exercises in the sea and in the airspace in the vicinity of Taiwan, as scheduled, and stressed that the purpose of these exercises was to “test firepower in the field and long-range air strikes.” ».

And in evidence of how close it is to the Taiwanese coast, the Chinese army published a photo taken by one of its military ships showing a Taiwan Navy building just a few hundred meters away, and this may be the closest photo it has taken of the Taiwanese coast.

And the Chinese army released a video of one of its pilots, showing from inside the cockpit of the plane the coasts and mountains of Taiwan.

According to Chinese state television, CCTV, missiles flew over Taiwan this week during exercises around the island.

For its part, Taiwan's Ministry of Defense said yesterday that it has sent planes and ships to respond appropriately to Chinese military exercises around the island.

Several military ships and drones continued to conduct joint exercises near Taiwan yesterday morning, the ministry on the autonomous island said in a press release.

Taiwan's Ministry of Transport announced that flights through its airspace gradually resumed at noon yesterday, as most of the notices about Chinese military exercises near the island are no longer valid.

The ministry said, in a statement, that Taiwan will, however, continue to direct aircraft and ships to stay away from Chinese military exercises off its east coast until 10 a.m. this morning.
