China eases coronavirus restrictions on international flights

China has reduced the duration of suspension of incoming airlines to it if cases of coronavirus infection are discovered among its passengers, in the latest indication that the country is likely to be ready to ease epidemic-related restrictions on international travelers.

And “Bloomberg” news agency quoted today, according to a statement published on the website of the Chinese Civil Aviation Administration, that the authorities have modified the so-called circuit breaker mechanism for banning airlines, as it reduced the period of suspension of incoming flights to one week if it was discovered that it had carried five passengers infected with the Corona virus, or 4% of the total passengers.

Flights that are proven to have arrived with 8% of the passengers on board will be suspended for two weeks.

The statement said the amendments, which began on Sunday, aim to enhance personnel exchanges between China and other countries, foreign exchange and cooperation, while achieving "scientific and accurate" epidemic prevention and control.

In June, China halved the length of quarantine for incoming travelers, the biggest shift in its anti-epidemic policy that has isolated the world's second-largest economy as it continues to try to stamp out the virus.
