On Saturday, the Sudanese Foreign Minister informed the Chadian ambassador in Khartoum of his country's protest against the killing of 18 civilians, according to Sudan, in Sudanese territory at the hands of Chadians, according to the official news agency.

Sudanese authorities reported that the victims were camel herders in West Darfur who were seeking to recover their stolen animals, which had been transported to neighboring Chadian territory and had fallen into an ambush, according to the Sudanese authorities.

The killing of these shepherds led to protests in the city of El Geneina, the capital of West Darfur, as it coincided with an official visit to Chad by the Vice-President of the Sovereignty Council, Lieutenant-General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, known as "Hemedti".

On Friday, Hemedti pledged, during the burial ceremony of five dead security personnel, to put an end to the "chaos" on the Sudanese-Chadian border, calling for "strengthening the Sudanese-Chadian joint forces" that administer the region.
