A Taiwanese official specialized in the production of missiles was found dead in a hotel

Taiwan's official Central News Agency reported that the deputy head of the research and development unit of the Taiwan Ministry of Defense was found dead, Saturday morning, in a hotel room.

The agency indicated that Ao Yang Li-shing, vice president of the army-owned National Chung Shan Institute of Science and Technology, was found dead in a hotel in southern Taiwan, and that the authorities were looking into the cause of death.

Ao Yang was on a business trip to the southern region of Pingtung, the agency said, adding that he took up the position early this year to oversee various missile production projects.

The army-owned body is doubling its annual missile production capacity to nearly 500 this year, as the island builds up its combat power amid what it sees as a growing military threat to China.
