For a month now, Region Sörmland has recommended businesses in the county to have mouth protection requirements, but the municipalities have had to decide for themselves.

In Eskilstuna, it has only been a requirement in case of suspected infection.

But on Friday, the rules are tightened and mouth protection becomes a requirement for all close care.

Preventive measure

- This is not really due to us seeing an increase in infection.

We don't, but the infection has been constant in recent weeks.

We do this in consultation with infection control and is a preventive measure.

It is done to stop it so that we don't have an outbreak at a later time, says Malin Sjöberg.

The introduction of mouth guards in care for the elderly is based on infection prevention in Sörmland's recommendation and is precisely to prevent the infection situation from worsening.

- There is a scenario where it is not unlikely that we will have an increased spread of infection now in August when the workplaces and schools open, says Signar Mäkitalo, infectious disease doctor at Region Sörmland.
