China News Agency, Paris, August 5th (Reporter Li Yang) France is currently facing a severe drought, and water supply in many places is tight.

French Prime Minister Borne on the 5th announced the launch of an inter-ministerial crisis team to respond.

The French Prime Minister's Office issued a statement that day, saying that in the face of severe drought and the water shortage situation that many places are experiencing, Prime Minister Borne decided to activate an inter-ministerial crisis team.

The statement noted that the current "abnormal drought" is depriving many cities of water supplies and is "tragic" for agriculture, ecosystems and biodiversity.

French officials revealed that the inter-ministerial crisis group launched by Borne will hold its first meeting later on the 5th, mainly to study the protection and utilization of water resources under drought conditions.

It is reported that the team will regularly receive relevant feedback from local governors from the most affected provinces to formulate corresponding water supply plans, and will also monitor the impact of the drought on French energy production, transportation and animal husbandry.

Some French officials believe that the drought may be the worst on record in France, and the conditions of the drought may still last for two weeks, so it will become more worrying.

Some analysts believe that the current drought is caused by a number of factors such as persistent heat waves and lack of precipitation.

Borne asked French provincial governors from next week to convene a meeting in areas with water difficulties to study the priority of water supply.

According to official reports, as many as 93 provinces in France are facing water supply restrictions due to drought, of which 62 are already in a water crisis.

The 62 provinces are mainly located in the western and southeastern regions of France.

According to the French BFM TV station, in the Var province in southeastern France, local water restrictions have been taken, from 150 to 200 liters of water per person per day. If the water consumption is exceeded, the local official plans to impose a fine of 1,500 euros. Install water-saving devices to enforce restricted water flow.

The report also said that drought and water shortages are also affecting energy production in France, and EDF may further reduce nuclear power production in the coming days.
