China News Service, August 5th. According to comprehensive US media reports, on August 5th, local time, a Washington, D.C. police spokesman said that two people were killed in a lightning strike that occurred in Lafayette Square on the north side of the White House on the 4th.
According to previous reports, a severe thunderstorm hit Washington, D.C. at about 7 p.m. on the 4th.
Lightning struck Lafayette Square, causing four people to suffer "serious, life-threatening injuries" and were taken to hospital.
Law enforcement sources said the victim was sheltering from the storm under a tree.
Local police confirmed the lightning strikes killed Donna Mueller, 75, and James Mueller, 76.
The condition of the other two injured is not known.
