The reason for the investigation was a video published on social networks, in which the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine shot unarmed captured Russian soldiers and left them on the road.

It is assumed that the shooting was carried out in late March - early April.

“It is suggested that militants from the Right Sector * are involved in the crimes ... Investigators are taking measures to identify persons involved in the commission of crimes against Russian military personnel,” the Russian Investigative Committee said in a statement.

It is noted that these facts indicate a violation by the Ukrainian side of the requirements of the Geneva Convention of 08/12/1949 on the treatment of prisoners of war.

The Russian Defense Ministry previously stated that more than 80% of Russian servicemen who were captured in Ukraine were subjected to physical violence.

So, one of the servicemen who returned from captivity said that the Ukrainian military blindfolded him, tied his hands and beat him with sticks on the body.

* "Right Sector" is a Ukrainian association of radical nationalist organizations, recognized as extremist and banned in Russia (decision of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation of 11/17/2014).
