  • Processed Euthanasia for the 'Tarragona gunman'

The

Tarragona Court

has confirmed the right to receive euthanasia to

Eugen Sabau,

known as "Tarragona gunman" by denying the latest appeals filed by several of his victims.

"The right to dignity and physical and moral integrity of the person under investigation must prevail over the right to effective judicial protection of the complainants," the order concludes.

The Court recognizes that Sabau, who had requested euthanasia, has caused "pain and physical and moral damage to the victims" and describes as "reasonable" the expectation of a "possible criminal conviction."

Subau, wounded in a shootout with the Mossos d'Esquadra Special Intervention Group that arrested him, is admitted to the Terrassa prison hospital in serious condition, which causes "constant and unbearable physical and mental suffering with no possibility of relief , with a limited life expectancy, in a context of progressive fragility", collects the car.

He also recalls that the Evaluation and Guarantees Commission authorized euthanasia and postponing it for a trial would suppose "

an intolerable affectation to his dignity

and his physical and moral integrity, inherent to the person."

On December 14 of last year, Subau shot three of his former co-workers in the offices of a security company, in the heart of Tarragona.

Shortly afterwards, he also shot a Mossos d'Esquadra agent at a checkpoint and barricaded himself in an abandoned farmhouse in Riudoms (Tarragona), until he was neutralized after a shootout in which he was wounded.

The Commission that authorized the euthanasia took into account that since then he has suffered from

quadriplegia

, for which he requires continuous assistance and cannot receive sedatives for pain despite his condition.

Euthanasia has been halted on two occasions due to the appeals of two of the victims, one of them the Mossos d'Esquadra agent who was shot, represented by the legal services of the USPAC union to which he belongs.
