Russia is apparently struggling with the movement and supply of its invading troops in southern Ukraine.

In addition to bridges, the Ukrainian missile attacks have also hit weapons depots and important junctions, according to a British intelligence report.

The Russian military set up radar reflectors in the Dnipro River to protect the Antonivka Bridge, a few kilometers east of the city of Cherson, which had already been badly damaged by Ukrainian attacks.

In this way, the bridge is hidden from surveillance technology and protected from further attacks.

Most recently, Russian media circulated videos of ferries being used by civilians to cross the river since the bridge was closed.

Meanwhile, the Russian army continued its attacks in several parts of Ukraine.

In the regions of Donetsk, Mykolaiv, Kharkiv and Dnipro there was again heavy shelling and some civilian deaths.

The Ukrainian General Staff spoke of significant Russian attacks with tanks and rocket artillery.

Attack on Zelenskyy's hometown?

The Ukrainian presidential adviser Oleksiy Arestovych also suspects a tactical diversionary maneuver behind the attacks.

"It's about putting military pressure on us in Kharkiv, Donetsk and Luhansk over the next few weeks," he said in an interview published on YouTube.

But what happens in the East is not decisive for the outcome of the war.

The point of the Russian offensive in the east is to force Ukraine to withdraw troops from the area that really poses a danger: this is Zaporizhia in the south of the country.

Kyiv recently announced that Russia was preparing a new offensive in the south of the country.

This should also include building up a force for an attack on Krywyj Rih.

The Ukrainian-controlled city is the hometown of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and is known for its steel production.

It is around 50 kilometers from the southern front line.

According to observers, the HIMARS multiple rocket launchers with an increased range, which have been supplied by the United States to Ukraine, are currently affecting the Russian attackers in particular.

Rockets launched by this system are said to have been hit a few days ago by a train coming from the Crimea, which was loaded with Russian troops and equipment.

Around 80 Russian soldiers are said to have been killed and around 200 army personnel injured in the attack in the Cherson region.

Even if, according to the British secret service, a repair is possible in a few days, the train route as part of the Russian supply route to Cherson will remain a vulnerable weak point.

According to the US Institute for the Study of War (ISW), the HIMARS rocket launchers also play a role in Russia's accusation that Kyiv is behind the deadly attack on Ukrainian prisoners of war in eastern Ukraine's Olenivka prison camp.

The West should thus be prevented from further deliveries of missile systems with an increased range.

According to the ISW, the Ukrainian military intelligence service GUR presented a report according to which the Russian mercenary group Wagner was responsible for the deaths of at least 50 Ukrainian prisoners of war.

Wagner mercenaries deliberately set fire to the penal camp last week.

This is consistent with the damage seen in a video of the site provided by Russia.

The mercenaries "mined" the building with unspecified combustible substances, causing the fire to spread rapidly throughout the building.
