As a third-generation nuclear power technology independently designed and developed by China, "Hualong No. 1" has formed a complete intellectual property rights and independent standard system. At the beginning of its design, "Hualong No. 1" adopted the highest international safety standards, adopted diversified safety measures, and strengthened the defense in depth of the nuclear power plant.
At the same time, based on the mature engineering practice and equipment manufacturing system, Hualong No. 1 creatively adopts the safety design concept of "177 core arrangement" and "combination of active and passive", innovating the design of nuclear island and containment, effectively It avoids the occurrence of various nuclear accidents, and fully meets the requirements of the highest international safety standards in terms of safety.

On May 21, 2021, the first overseas batch of K2 units in Karachi, Pakistan, of "Hualong No. 1" was put into commercial operation, and the K3 units will also be put into commercial operation in 2022.

Compared with coal-fired power stations of the same scale, it can reduce standard coal consumption by 3.12 million tons and carbon dioxide emissions by 8.16 million tons each year, which is equivalent to planting more than 70 million trees and afforestation of 30,000 hectares.

An hour's drive from the Hainan Nuclear Power Base will take you to Yidong Village, Qicha Town, Changjiang Li Autonomous County, Hainan, a designated poverty alleviation village of Hainan Nuclear Power.
In terms of geographical location, Yidong Village has no natural resources, tourism resources and other advantages, and is one of the most difficult villages in Hainan to help the poor.
The village committee has jurisdiction over three natural villages (Yidong Village, Zhimu Village, Baoyou Village), with a total of 420 households and 1940 people.
According to statistics, there are 39 households with 93 people in the village enjoying minimum living allowances, 9 households with 10 people, 81 disabled people and 18 elderly people.
As of the end of 2020, 164 households with 748 people in the village have been lifted out of poverty as scheduled.
