Record heavy rain has been pouring since yesterday (3rd) in the northwestern part of Japan.

The entire village of Murakami City, Niigata Prefecture has been devastated.



The rain from yesterday caused a landslide, and the piles of dirt and trees washed down from the mountain behind the village hit it.



Houses were destroyed and vehicles parked there were pushed down to the riverbank.



A resident in his 80s suffered a broken leg, and as the road was cut off, about 80 households in the surrounding villages were isolated, and the police and fire departments came to the rescue.

As most of the houses in the city center were flooded, even the Self-Defense Forces were mobilized to carry out rescue activities.



The damage from the heavy rain was concentrated in the northwestern part of Japan, but in Yamagata Prefecture, a road was severely submerged in the heavy rain, causing an accident where a car crashed, and hundreds of houses were flooded as the river overflowed.

Heavy rain is expected in Tokyo as well as in the area tonight, and the Japan Meteorological Agency has urged caution to avoid flood damage.
