On August 1st, barely a month after the two rapes were committed - and on the same day as the verdict - a new law came into effect setting three years in prison as the minimum penalty for rape.

But since the crimes were committed before the law change came into force, the punishment for the men will still be the previous minimum sentence: two years in prison.

The two men do not deny intercourse, but they do deny crime.

According to them, it must have happened with the consent of the woman.

The district court considered that the charges are substantiated.

In addition to testimony from plaintiffs and those around them, technical evidence has bolstered the evidence against the men.
