In response to the House of Councilors election, an extraordinary Diet session was convened on the 3rd, and Hidehisa Otsuji of the Liberal Democratic Party was elected as the new Speaker of the House of Councilors, and Hiroyuki Nagahama of the Constitutional Democratic Party was elected as Vice-Chairman.

The 209th extraordinary session of the Diet was convened on the 3rd, the first session of the Diet after last month's House of Councilors election.



At the plenary session of the House of Councilors, which began at 10:00 am, votes were taken to elect the new Speaker and Vice-President of the House of Councillors.



As a result, Hidehisa Otsuji, former vice chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party, was elected chairman, and Hiroyuki Nagahama, former Minister of the Environment of the Constitutional Democratic Party, was elected vice chairman.



Afterwards, new Speaker Otsuji said, "I will do my utmost to ensure that the House of Councilors, under the bicameral system, fulfills its mission and role in a fair and selfless manner."

In addition, Nagahama, the new Vice-Chairman, said, "Together with Speaker Otsuji, I will strive for the smooth operation of the House of Councillors and do my utmost to achieve the House's mission."



The duration of the extraordinary session of the Diet will be decided at the plenary sessions of both houses of the Diet to be three days, ending on the 5th.



Then, at 3:00 pm, the opening ceremony will be held with the presence of His Majesty the Emperor.



After the extraordinary Diet session, the ruling and opposition parties have agreed to discuss former Prime Minister Abe's `` state funeral '' during the closing examination, and will proceed with adjusting the schedule in the future.
