• Warning Sánchez warns Ayuso that "the law in Spain is complied with", and Madrid replies that it will study the constitutionality of the Energy Decree

  • Punishment The penalties for breaching the energy restrictions will range between 60,000 and 600,000 euros

Pedro Sánchez arrived this Tuesday at

the Royal Palace of La Almudaina in Palma

fully dressed.

That is, with a tie knotted around his neck.

He had an appointment with King Felipe VI and the inflexible protocol imposed it.

However, after coming down from the Gothic Hall -and icy air conditioning- in which the usual summer office between the head of state and the head of government was held in an extraordinary way, the socialist leader changed the scenery of it.

He took off his tie before appearing before the media in the courtyard of the imposing medieval Majorcan palace.

With 35 degrees in the shade and the sun biting the battlements of the building, Sánchez did not avoid the debate on ties that he promoted a few days ago.

«I already said it, that where it was not necessary I would take it off».

But the controversy had already crossed that barrier, with a new open confrontation between the Government, the PP and, in a singular way, the Madrid president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso.

Now, the friction lies in the energy saving measures imposed on transport, stations and airports, cinemas, theaters, restaurants, bars, hotels, shopping centers and shops.

In all cases, the heating may not rise above 19 degrees nor the air conditioning below 16 and, in the case of commercial establishments, they must turn off the windows at 10:00 p.m., a measure that extends, for example, to lighting of monuments.

The Madrid president opened a gap by announcing that she will not comply.

And the PP, through the mouth of its general coordinator,

Elías Bendodo,

defended the "freedom" of Ayuso and all the regional officials "to decide" whether or not to apply the measures.

But neither Andalusia nor Galicia positioned themselves in Madrid

's line of disobedience .

The PP censured that the plan does not include serious measures but "frivolities" and pointed out that the energy plan "of a serious State, of a serious country, cannot be limited to telling people to turn up the air conditioning, turn down the heating, let them turn off the shop windows and take off their ties ».

And along these lines, the communities controlled by the PP reacted by questioning the plan.

From the

Xunta,

they point out that if the Government is really concerned about the energy problem in Spain, it should not be limited to aesthetic issues, but rather face once and for all the supply problems that threaten many industries and put jobs at risk.

But

Galicia,

According to sources from the Xunta to this newspaper, "he is analyzing the Royal Decree and studying the formula in which it can be applied."

Although he is "surprised that such a decision has been made without consensus with the autonomous communities and, above all, without the economic sectors that are asked to turn off their windows and limit the use of air conditioning", they do not consider non-compliance at the moment.

Nor

Andalusia,

the great powerful barony of the PP.

Without committing themselves in any direction, they did not support Ayuso, the one who took his reproach the furthest, with a graphic: "Madrid does not turn off."

The regional president argued that she will not apply the plan because "it generates insecurity and scares away tourism and consumption", in addition to transmitting "poverty, sadness".

She closed with a question, the one that «the Government covers: what savings are you going to apply to yourself?

Reduce 20,000 million useless expenses of your 22 ministries ».

Sánchez, from Palma, drew a dialectical red line against those who censor his plan of measures, warning them: "The law in Spain is complied with."

He repeated it up to two times, in a lapidary and prepared phrase that, word up word down, had already been pronounced before by the minister Nadia Calviño.

Sánchez replied to Ayuso by appealing to the dike of his decree law.

"Europe is now asking us for an exercise in solidarity in the face of Putin's energy blackmail and Spain must be in solidarity," said the president in his speech, minutes after addressing with the King the existing concern about the invasion of Ukraine and its lacerating effects on the Spanish economy.

Indirectly, without specific allusions to any political opponent but in a clear allusion to the Madrid president, he accused the positions expressed by Ayuso and other members of his cabinet of "unsupportive and selfish", who have even slipped that the matter could end before the Constitutional Court.

Sánchez demanded that no regional administration act "unilaterally", considering that "in no way represents the effort and Europeanist commitment of Spanish society".

The leader of the Executive reiterated his will and his commitment to Brussels so that Spain cuts its energy consumption by 7%, less than that of other European nations, up to 15%.

For that, he said, the measures were approved.

Regarding the possible sanctioning mechanisms that the Government of Spain could use in the eventual rebellion in Madrid, he limited himself to pointing out that the sanctions are included "in the regulation of thermal installations", delving into his idea that the decree approved on Monday is of mandatory compliance.

«I ask above all the political parties to flee from selfish behavior;

this is not about parties or ideologies, but about common sense”, added the head of the Spanish Government.

His initiative found support in

Extremadura

or

Cantabria,

while

Euskadi

and

Catalonia

insisted that they have their own plan, even already underway.
