“Tragedy after tragedy”: a woman suspected of poisoning her daughter and three grandchildren was detained near Saratov

In the Saratov region, investigators detained a 49-year-old woman suspected of poisoning her own daughter and three grandchildren.

As RT was told in the press service of the department, a criminal case was initiated against the suspect under paragraphs "a", "c" part 2 of Art.

105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (the murder of two or more persons, a minor or another person, who is obviously in a helpless state for the perpetrator).

How and with what poison the underage children and their aunt were poisoned, the investigation has to find out. 

“While we can not specify what substance we are talking about.

The woman’s motive will become known after the investigative actions are carried out, ”Ksenia Litvinova, senior assistant to the head of the Investigative Committee of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Saratov Region for information interaction with the public and the media, told RT. 

"Got sick"

According to the Saratov media, the tragedy occurred on December 13, 2021.

At 04:55, a woman from the village of Alexandrovka, Marksovsky district, called to the control panel of the unified duty dispatch service (EDDS).

She reported that her grandchildren felt unwell, they developed nausea and vomiting.

Ambulance doctors arrived at the scene and declared the death of three-year-old Mikhail and five-year-old Margarita.

A seven-year-old boy and a 23-year-old aunt of the children were hospitalized in intensive care, but they could not be saved.

In the morning they died four hours apart.

Investigators who arrived at the scene did not find signs of violent death on the bodies of the dead.

However, on the fact of the death of four people, a criminal case was initiated under Part 3 of Art.

109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (causing death by negligence to two or more persons).

The father of the dead children, 27-year-old Alexander Shiryaev, told reporters that he was at work that night.

A man works at a sunflower oil factory.

His wife was in Moscow on earnings.

According to the man, the first thing investigators did was to check the hoods, because they thought that the dead had been poisoned by carbon monoxide.

However, all equipment worked well.

Investigators also looked for poisonous substances in food and medicines, as well as on cutlery: a week before the tragedy, Alexander poisoned insects in the house.

“But after that, I thoroughly wiped everything.

This is not the first time we have poisoned with this drug, and everything has always been fine.

Moreover, it would be so - we would all be poisoned.

In the house then I spent the night, mother and uncle.

But we remained alive, ”Shiryaev explained.

15 examinations

The Investigative Committee told RT that it took 15 complex forensic examinations, including a chemical-toxicological one at the Russian Center for Forensic Medical Examination of the Ministry of Health of Russia, to figure out what happened.

As a result, law enforcement officers found out that the cause of death of children and their aunt was poisoning with an unknown substance.

“All examinations were difficult.

As a result, they managed to solve the crime: they were poisoned by a woman who is the grandmother of these children.

A preventive measure will be chosen for her in the near future.

The investigators came out with such a petition, ”Ksenia Litvinova told RT. 

In turn, the father of the family, Alexander Shiryaev, told RT that he did not believe in the guilt of his mother. 

“I can’t believe that this is my mother.

She called an ambulance when the children did not feel well.

I think it happened by accident.

I don’t even know what to do next,” says Shiryaev.

The head of the Marksovsky municipal district, Dmitry Romanov, expressed sympathy for Alexander in an interview with RT.

“Shortly before the tragedy, his father died - 40 days have not passed.

Then the children and sister died, and now the mother was detained.

We helped him then, even collected money from the administration.

They helped him at the enterprise.

It’s hard,” says Romanov.

Earlier, the head of the district said that the large family was prosperous. 

“The family is complete.

Although my mother, in fact, withdrew herself from raising children and is on a long business trip.

The family is prosperous, it was not registered.

The children attended school and kindergarten.

My father worked at an enterprise in the regional center - in Marks.

On the day of the tragedy, he was on duty.
