United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres will visit Japan for four days starting from the 5th of this month.

According to the government, UN Secretary-General Guterres will visit Japan from the 5th to the 8th of this month.



During his stay, he will visit Hiroshima, the site of the atomic bombing, to hold talks with Prime Minister Kishida and attend the Peace Memorial Ceremony to be held on the 6th.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Matsuno said, "Secretary-General Guterres' attendance at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Ceremony and his meeting with Prime Minister Kishida in Hiroshima are extremely important opportunities for communicating the reality of the atomic bombing to the world. I hope that the cooperative relationship between Japan and the United Nations will further deepen."



Secretary-General Guterres expressed a sense of crisis at the review conference of the NPT = Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, which began on the 1st of Japan time, saying, "Mankind is forgetting the lessons of the tragedy of Hiroshima and Nagasaki." By visiting, it is expected that there is also an aim to increase the momentum toward consensus building on the direction of nuclear disarmament in each country.
