Philippine President Marcos has said he has no plans to return to the International Criminal Court, the International Criminal Court, which the previous government has withdrawn over an investigation into its crackdown on illegal drugs.

Human rights groups have accused Marcos of defending former President Duterte from charges of crimes against humanity.

Philippine President Marcos held a press conference in the capital Manila on the 1st, and when asked by a reporter about returning to the ICC = International Criminal Court, which the former Duterte administration withdrew in 2019, he said, "I do not intend to join again," and returned. As for why, he said, "Why is it necessary when we continue to do our own research?"



During the six years of the previous administration in the Philippines, law enforcement officials were willing to kill suspects to crack down on illegal drugs, leading to more than 6,200 deaths, according to the government alone.



The ICC has allowed prosecutors to conduct a formal investigation as a crime against humanity, but former President Duterte has strengthened his opposition by withdrawing from the ICC.
