[Explanation] On August 1, an emergency rescue drill was carried out on the first platform of Wuhan Yangtze River View. The "Yangtze River Guards" volunteer service team of retired soldiers in Wuchang District, Wuhan City carried out subject drills such as windsurfing to rescue people and throwing lifebuoys.

  [Explanation] Up to now, nearly 900 "Yangtze River Guards" volunteer service teams have been established in Wuhan, and more than 10,000 retired soldiers have joined the team to achieve full coverage of the 15 districts along the river in the city.

The "Yangtze River Guards" volunteer service team of retired soldiers in Wuchang District, which was established in September 2019, is one of them. It has 142 members. Its daily work includes protecting the ecological environment of the Yangtze River, fighting floods and disasters, and rescuing drowning people.

  [Explanation] Zhao Ying, a 62-year-old retired soldier, is a female member of the volunteer team. She said that as a retired soldier and a Wuhan native who grew up by the river, it is her duty to protect the Yangtze River.

  That is to say, the discharge of the army will not fade. As a soldier, I feel honored to be able to participate in this kind of organization, so I will participate.

  [Explanation] Team member Fu Tiehan worked in Wuhan Police Officer Vocational College after his retirement.

In his spare time, he often participates in voluntary work such as environmental protection of the Yangtze River, dredging and greening, and flood control.

Fu Tiehan said that although he had retired long ago, he still did not forget his original intention of "serving the people".

  Because we are retired soldiers, we must give full play to the true colors of soldiers, keep our mission in mind, and do some meaningful things that are beneficial to society.

  [Commentary] Zhang Xiaoxing, captain of the "Guardian of the Yangtze River" volunteer service team, a retired soldier in Wuchang District, introduced that the average age of the team members is about 50 years old. Volunteers of the people are their common aspiration.

  When we said goodbye to the military flag, we burst into tears. Today, we look back at the military flag with passion. Although we have retired, the true colors of our soldiers will never be lost. The purpose of serving the people wholeheartedly will always be remembered in our hearts.

  [Explanation] According to reports, in recent years, the Hubei Provincial Veterans Affairs System has established more than 1,400 "Yangtze River Guards" volunteer service teams with more than 20,000 veterans to achieve full coverage of the Hubei section of the Yangtze River.
