The Ministry of Public Administration and Security announced today that the Police Department will be officially launched tomorrow (2nd).

The Ministry of Public Administration and Security emphasized that it is meaningful to normalize police-related state affairs through a system to control the rule of law in accordance with the Constitution and laws, away from the way previous governments have unofficially controlled the police.

The Police Department supports the Minister of Public Administration and Security in carrying out his responsibilities and powers, such as the authority to recommend the appointment of police officers above the superintendent as specifically stipulated by individual laws such as the Police Act and the Police Officials Act.

The Police Department is composed of 3 departments and 16 people including the General Support Division, the Human Resources Support Division, and the Autonomous Police Support Division.

Kim Soon-ho, a former non-police officer, was selected as the first chief of the police department.

The head of the personnel support section and the autonomous police support section were hired by former police officers, and the head of the general support section was assigned from the Ministry of Public Administration and Security.

Bang Yu-jin, head of the Police Agency's Women and Juvenile Crime Investigation Division (supervisor) from Gosi, was appointed as the head of the personnel support division, and Woo Ji-wan, a former police officer from the National Police Agency (supervisor), was appointed as the head of the autonomous police support division.

The general support department is headed by Im Cheol-eon, the head of the social organization department (deputy director) of the Ministry of Public Administration and Security.

Of the 16 employees, 12 were police officers. In particular, in the case of the Human Resources Support Department, all members, including front-line employees, were deployed as police officers.

The Ministry of Public Administration and Security explained that if additional police personnel are deployed to reflect the future work demand, more than 80% of the employees will be from the police.

In order to establish a system of close communication and collaboration with the National Police Agency, the National Police Agency moves into the Seoul Government Complex, which is close to the National Police Agency.

The Ministry of Public Administration and Security also established and enforced rules on the command of the head of the agency under the Ministry of Public Administration and Security along with the establishment of the Police Department on the same day.

According to the enacted rule, the Minister of Public Administration and Security, who is also a member of the State Council, gives prior approval to the National Police Agency and Fire Service when establishing a basic plan that requires enactment or revision of laws and regulations, and receives a report in advance for the agenda items to be presented at the State Council.

In addition, the Commissioner must report to the Minister about the performance of important policies and plans.

Minister of Public Administration and Security Lee Sang-min said, "In order to resolve the various concerns raised during the discussion, I and the police department will expand sympathy through wide communication so that police officers can focus on protecting the safety and human rights of the people without losing their pride. We promise to support you as much as possible."
