The Peruvian Ministry of Health urges the public to continue to follow precautionary measures, such as reducing contact with suspected infected persons, washing hands frequently, wearing masks correctly, maintaining social distancing, and isolating from others if they develop monkeypox symptoms.

Raul Urquizo, president of the Peruvian Medical Association, warned on the same day that Peru is the country with the highest number of monkeypox cases in the Americas because high-risk groups do not take preventive measures.

Urquizzo also said more information is needed from the Ministry of Health to give guidelines to avoid contagion.

Urquizzo stressed that although the monkeypox virus has not caused any deaths in Peru, the government must take timely measures to avoid fatalities.
