The sun and the high heat are back this weekend in France, so everyone is looking for a bit of freshness.

Lakes, waterfalls and rivers are taken by storm.

The only problem?

The sites are not always adapted to such a flow of holidaymakers.

In the Vosges, counters have therefore been installed at the entrance to the most touristic places.

It is 30 meters high, 4 meters wide and a triple bounce.

The great waterfall of Tendon is the pride of Gérard Clément, the mayor of the city.

"You see downstairs, people are asking, there is a real island of freshness, the kids love it, they are told that there is a waterfall, a cool place and water", welcomes- he.

"When it's splashing and the kids are all ready, it's great."

And indeed, many tourists come to soak their feet.

Fifty cars are parked in the parking lot.

“Last Sunday, we exceeded 1,000 people,” says Gérard Clément.

"We feel that as soon as the temperatures rise, there are more people."

Thermal sensors

If Marylène Cendre can give this precise figure, it is because a meter has been installed at the entrance to the site.

Hanging on a tree, the device counts the number of walkers using thermal sensors.

“We have the data which is transmitted to an application”, explains the tourism manager in the Pays de Remiremont and its Valleys.

According to these data 600 people come here every day.

A figure that worries Marylène Cendre.

"In the evening, before going to bed, I watch the site traffic," she explains.

The figures for the 10 sites that have been equipped in the Vosges allow us to draw up an initial assessment of overcrowding, before possibly taking restrictive measures.
