With the "Großer Frankfurter Bogen" (GFB) program, the state government wants to promote the construction of apartments where they are most urgently needed: in the major cities of Frankfurt, Offenbach, Wiesbaden and Darmstadt as well as in smaller communities in between.

A summer program under the motto "Experience living together" is intended to show the progress that has been made since the start of the program in 2020.

This includes an exhibition on the Schönhof district, which has now opened.

The companies Nassauische Heimstätte/Wohnstadt (NHW) and Instone are building around 2,000 apartments, including around 600 subsidized ones, as well as a primary school, several daycare centers and local suppliers on a former commercial area near the Westbahnhof.

It is currently the largest residential construction project in Hesse.

The developers bought the property from Siemens in 2015, and construction began a few weeks ago.

"Sometimes it takes longer, but the result is good," said NHW Managing Director Monika Fontaine-Kretschmer at the opening of the exhibition.

"We don't want to build a district like in the 1950s, where one block looks like the other." You work with different architects who were selected in competitions.

"Living in the new twenties?"

State Secretary for Economic Affairs Jens Deutschendorf (Greens) described the project as a "successful example of modern urban development" and praised the concepts for climate-friendly mobility and the social infrastructure, among other things.

It's not just about "build, build, build", but also about quality.

Head of planning Mike Josef (SPD) described the project as exemplary and highlighted the location: central and at the same time in the countryside.

The exhibition in the atrium of the planning department (Kurt-Schumacher-Strasse 10) can be visited from Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. until September 1st, admission is free.

While the excavators are already rolling in the Schönhof district, another project is still in the planning stage.

The Frankfurt Northwest urban development measure, i.e. the controversial development on the A5 between Frankfurt and Steinbach, is one of several topics at an event on Friday in front of the Historical Museum.

The plans will be presented at 4.15 p.m.

Under the motto "Living in the new twenties?" Lectures and discussions, but also entertaining elements, are on the program from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

For example, the guest is Youtuber Josef Bogatzki, who, as “TheJoCraft”, oversees the “Residential Region” project together with the Architekturmuseum.

In this, children and young people face the challenging issues of urban planning with the help of the computer game "Minecraft".

At the end of the evening, the film "Space City Northwest City" will be shown, which documents the major city expansion in the 1960s.
