The 19-year-old is connected to a criminal network that is connected to several fatal shootings in northwest Stockholm.

He has served ten months of youth supervision at Sis Stigby on Visingsö outside Jönköping.

The penalty is new since last year, and applies in his case to a serious weapons offence.

In early June, he would have been tried for another serious weapons offense from the spring of 2020. Then the police found a gun and a loaded magazine in the possession of a well-known rap artist in the same gang.

The teenager, who was only 16 at the time, took the crime upon himself.

Police suspect he was trying to protect the artist to show loyalty.

Over 260 escapes

Because he escaped, the trial against him and the rap artist had to be postponed.

- It's not good, of course, notes Catharina Högberg, head of department at Sis Stigby.

The accused 19-year-old is one of many who escaped from the state's 21 youth homes.

So far this year, there have been over 260 escapes.

At the moment, 29 young people, both boys and girls, are at large.

Sis Stigby on Visingsö has had problems with violence in recent months.

Staff have been forced to lock themselves in while waiting for the police.

Recently, a guy in intensive care was released after a window was broken open with an angle grinder.

Review security

Those in charge at Sis say that security is being reviewed, among other things, the youth homes must conduct better security investigations around the young.

This summer, the authority has been forced to go into staff mode due to both a lack of staff and places in the youth homes, which SVT reported on.

And that is in addition to all young people in compulsory care with severe problems who have deviated.

Johan Feldtmann is head of Si's staff organization:

Are you satisfied with the security then, when this can happen?

- No.

Two of our youth homes have been security rated recently.

Another institution is planned to be security classified.

The idea is that we should strengthen the security at the youth homes so that it will be more difficult with this type of deviations, that we should prevent them.

The accused teenager from Stockholm was recently arrested and is in custody.

The trial against him and the rap artist is scheduled to be held in early August.
