Today (July 29) marks the 12th Global Tiger Day.

With the in-depth progress of my country's ecological civilization construction, the protection of wild animals has been continuously increased, and my country's tiger protection has achieved remarkable results. At present, the number of wild Siberian tigers exceeds 60.

my country's tiger protection has achieved remarkable results

Over 60 wild Siberian tigers

Siberian tiger is the flagship species of Northeast China and the top carnivore of forest ecosystem, which is of great significance to maintaining biodiversity and ecological balance.

At present, Laoyeling, Xiaoxing'anling and other areas have gradually become the stable distribution area of wild Siberian tigers.

The population of Siberian tigers in my country has gradually recovered. At present, the number of wild Siberian tigers exceeds 60. The ecological environment of the habitat is good, and the habitat conditions of wild Siberian tigers continue to improve.

Li Linhai, Director of Wildlife Protection Management Division of the Wildlife Protection Department of the State Forestry and Grassland Administration: In order to strengthen tiger protection, nature reserves and management stations have been established in the wild tiger distribution area to strengthen habitat patrol and monitoring, especially the implementation of The project of wildlife protection and nature reserve construction has greatly promoted the maintenance, restoration and improvement of tiger habitats.

In addition, compensation measures should be implemented for human and animal damage and crop loss caused to wild tigers to effectively protect the interests of the masses and avoid dampening the enthusiasm of the local public for protection.

At the same time, actively carry out artificial breeding, establish and expand artificial breeding populations of tigers, preserve and maintain germplasm resources, and actively carry out international cooperation and exchanges with tiger range countries to jointly promote global tiger protection.

Construction of Siberian Tiger and Leopard National Park

new progress

In order to strengthen the protection of wild populations of Siberian tigers and Siberian leopards and their habitats, my country officially established Siberian Tiger and Leopard National Park in October 2021.

At present, new progress has been made in various work of the Siberian Tiger and Leopard National Park.

Since the official establishment of the Siberian Tiger and Leopard National Park, the National Forestry and Grass Administration and the Jilin and Heilongjiang Provincial Governments have made full use of the bureau-provincial joint meeting mechanism platform to form a joint effort to jointly promote the Siberian Tiger and Leopard National Park in ecological protection and people's livelihood. Improvement, scientific research monitoring and other aspects have achieved phased results.

At present, the Siberian Tiger and Leopard National Park is being built with high quality to further strengthen the protection of flagship species such as Siberian tigers and Siberian leopards, open up ecological corridors, and promote habitat protection and restoration.

Make full use of high-tech satellite remote sensing and other high-tech, establish and improve the integrated monitoring network system of air and ground.

We will advance the investigation of the background of natural resources, and solidly carry out the pilot work of the principal-agent mechanism for the ownership of natural resource assets owned by the whole people.

Improve the ecological compensation system, set up ecological public welfare posts, and promote the integration of ecological protection, people's livelihood improvement, and green development.

Scientifically deploy and standardize the construction of field observation points, ecological stations, entrance communities, etc., and create ecological experience projects to enhance the sense of public participation and experience.

Prevent and resolve major risks and hidden dangers, strengthen forest fire prevention, pine wood nematode disease prevention and other work, and properly handle human-animal conflicts.

The Siberian Tiger and Leopard National Park spans Jilin and Heilongjiang provinces and is adjacent to Russia and North Korea. It has a protected area of 14,100 square kilometers and is home to the largest and only wild Siberian tiger and Siberian leopard population in China.

The vegetation in the park is diverse and the ecological structure is relatively complete. It is a typical representative of the temperate forest ecosystem and a model of cross-border cooperative protection.

continue to increase protection

Promote the healthy development of tiger populations

The State Forestry and Grassland Administration said that in the next step, forestry and grassland authorities at all levels will continue to increase protection efforts to promote the healthy development of tiger populations.

At present, strengthening the rescue and protection of tigers and their habitats has been included in the "National Parks and other natural reserves construction and major wildlife protection project construction plans (2021-2035)" and "the 14th Five-Year Plan for Forestry and Grassland Protection and Development Planning Outline" .

The State Forestry and Grassland Administration said that in the next step, forestry and grassland authorities at all levels will continue to do a good job in wild monitoring and early warning and safety precautions, and monitor and warn all wild tigers in real time to ensure the safety of humans and tigers.

Li Linhai, director of the Wildlife Protection Management Division of the Wildlife Protection Department of the State Forestry and Grass Administration: Strictly crack down on illegal and criminal activities, and strictly prevent the poaching of wild tigers and their prey and the resurgence of illegal trade in tiger products.

In addition, actively expand international cooperation and exchanges, establish coordination and cooperation mechanisms with protection agencies and law enforcement agencies in border areas, further fulfill international obligations, demonstrate my country's firm stance and determination to strengthen tiger protection, and contribute to global tiger protection.
