China News Service, July 29. According to the Hong Kong SAR government press release, the Hong Kong SAR government today (29) strongly objected to the statement issued by the spokesperson of the European Commission (EU) on civil and political rights.

"We strongly oppose the groundless criticism and untruthful comments made by the European Union on Hong Kong's implementation of the National Security Law and the general situation in Hong Kong," a government spokesman said.

“We must stress that the Hong Kong National Security Law was enacted to allow Hong Kong residents to regain their rights and freedoms that they could not enjoy during the black violence from June 2019 to early 2020. The Hong Kong National Security Law has indeed achieved the intended effect, and it has been quickly implemented. and effectively restore stability and security. This is the indisputable personal experience of people living in Hong Kong and businesses operating in Hong Kong. They are relieved and happy that Hong Kong continues to be an open, safe, dynamic and business-friendly city ."

"The promulgation of the "Hong Kong National Security Law" is in line with the international practice of safeguarding national security. It is surprising that the EU has deliberately slandered and made baseless accusations with double standards."

"Article 4 of the "Hong Kong National Security Law" clearly stipulates that the safeguarding of national security in the Hong Kong SAR shall respect and protect human rights, and "Article 5 of the "Hong Kong National Security Law" clearly stipulates that when law enforcement actions are taken against crimes endangering national security, the principle of the rule of law must be adhered to . Hong Kong law enforcement authorities take enforcement actions against the "Hong Kong National Security Law" and other laws based on evidence, strictly in accordance with the law, and the conduct of the persons or units concerned, regardless of their political stance or background. They should be punished by law for their illegal acts and activities, which violates the spirit of the rule of law.”

"The SAR government has been unswervingly upholding the rule of law and judicial independence, and by doing so has laid the cornerstone of Hong Kong's success as an international commercial and financial center. Hong Kong's judicial independence remains rock solid after the implementation of the National Security Law for Hong Kong. Judicial independence is enshrined in the constitution. Articles 2, 19 and 85 of the Basic Law stipulate that the Hong Kong SAR shall enjoy judicial power and the power of final adjudication, and the courts shall conduct trials independently without any interference."

"Since Hong Kong's return to the motherland, the SAR government has firmly upheld the freedom of the press, speech, assembly and association guaranteed by the Basic Law and the Hong Kong Bill of Rights."

The spokesman stressed that the Hong Kong SAR is an inalienable part of the People's Republic of China, a local administrative region that enjoys a high degree of autonomy under "One Country, Two Systems" and is directly under the Central People's Government.

The SAR government once again urges the EU to stop interfering in the country's internal affairs through Hong Kong affairs.
